For decades, off road racing has been a popular event in Baja. Given the large amount of wide-open spaces, the entire peninsula has provided tremendous opportunities for the sport.

Many races begin, pass through or finish in La Paz. During the summer months, with high temperatures, some events are held at night to beat the heat. In this case, technical inspection and registration were held next to the Malecon, with the race itself starting the next morning.
